ABOUT LACEA 2015

The Society of Bolivian Economists (SEBOL), the Institute for Advanced Development Studies (INESAD) and the Private University of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (UPSA), are in charge of the twentieth Annual Meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) that will take place from October 15-17, 2015 in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

The Organizing Committee gratefully acknowledges Miguel Urquiola (Columbia University) and Jean Paul L´Huillier (EINAUDI Institute) for providing scientific support.

The main objective of the Twentieth Annual Conference is to encourage debate on important economic issues for the region through the active and joint participation of academics, policy-makers, officers from international organizations and government, private sector economists, and students. Additionally, the conference aims to attract young researchers, students and economists from less-developed countries in the region to be involved in different research networks and to become LACEA members, thus contributing to research and the development of their economies.

Specifically, the purpose of the conference in Bolivia is firstly to position rigorous research in economics as an essential tool for efficient and safe decision-making for sustainable economic development and economic policy. Secondly, it seeks to bring together Bolivian economists distributed worldwide with policy makers so that they can develop lines of research that contribute to the economic and social development of Bolivia.

Juan Felipe Mejia (LACEA 2010) Universidad EAFIT, Medellin Colombia

“Having organized the X Annual Meeting of foto web 1LACEA in Paris, on October 27-29 2005, was one of my most challenging and fascinating experiences in my academiccareer. A key success to make it happen was to successfully fundraise and award more than 110 scholarships to young researchers and Ph.D. students, and to hold 8 keynote sessions with distinguished colleagues from top universities. The LACEA community was critical to achieve that fundarising record”

Martin Grandes (LACEA 2005 Chair). The American University of Paris.

The authorities recommend to have the yellow fever certificate if you are going to visit the lowlands of Bolivia. But if you are going to stay at the city and its surroundings you don´t need it. At the airport the migration officers usually do not ask for this certificate, but if you are planning to come to Bolivia by bus, car or train, they will ask for this certificate at the country border.
